EAA’s Witness2311 CMX XXX & SC9 XXX: A More Practical 2011 Design?
What Was Announced
The landscape of the modern 2011 has undergone a radical transformation over the last several years. What began as a niche for high-end competition shooters has evolved into a versatile category of handguns suitable for duty carry and home defense. European American Armory (EAA) Corp. is staying at the forefront of this evolution with the announcement of two new 2026 releases: the Witness2311 CMX XXX and the SC9 XXX.
This new firearm release is significant because EAA aims to solve the primary complaint of the double-stack 1911—its substantial footprint—without sacrificing the high capacity and performance for which the platform is known. To achieve this, EAA partnered with Checkmate to develop a purpose-built, flush-fit, slim-profile magazine. This innovation allows for a more compact 2011 grip module that still maintains an impressive 16-round capacity, marking a major step toward making a compact 2011 practical for everyday carry.

What Makes It Different
The core innovation of the XXX series lies in the magazine and the grip module. By utilizing the new slim-profile magazine, EAA has significantly reduced the overall footprint of the double-stack platform compared to the previous CMX and CMXX models. However, the two new models offer very different philosophies for the user.
The CMX XXX is built on the modern architecture of the CMX line. It eliminates the traditional grip safety in favor of a fixed aluminum beavertail and incorporates a firing pin safety. It is designed for the modern shooter, featuring an optics-ready slide with an RMSc footprint, front and rear slide serrations, and lightening cuts on both the top and sides. It comes with a striking Tungsten Cerakote finish and includes two magazines.
In contrast, the SC9 XXX takes a more traditional, “no-frills” approach. It retains the classic 2011-pattern grip safety. To remain streamlined and keep the price point accessible, it lacks the forward slide serrations, lightening cuts, and the optics cut. It is finished in a business-like Black Cerakote and includes one magazine. Despite these aesthetic differences, both pistols share the same 3.4-inch bull barrel and compact grip module, providing a balanced 22.4-ounce experience that is much more manageable than full-sized 2011s.
