The Long & Short of It: Rock Island Armory’s Pak-Out Platform
Rock Island Armory, a subsidiary of Armscor Precision, has built a reputation for importing quality handguns, rifles, and shotguns. In 2022, the company took a significant step forward by opening a new manufacturing facility in Cedar City, Utah. The Pak-Out represents the latest innovation from this facility, offered in two distinct configurations designed for versatility.
Pak-Out Long: The 12-Gauge Pump-Action Shotgun
The Pak-Out Long features a 3-inch chamber and is chambered in 12-gauge, feeding from an underbarrel tubular magazine that holds four shells. Its most distinctive characteristic is the spring-assisted pump mechanism; the user compresses a spring on the action’s opening stroke, and the action closes under its own force. A key safety and convenience benefit of this spring-loaded mechanism is that it keeps the action closed when the firearm is folded for transport or storage. The anodized aluminum receiver features a hinge at the front of the loading port. Pushing the latch at the upper rear of the receiver—also notched to serve as a rear sight—allows the shotgun to fold in two. With an 18.5-inch barrel, the deployed overall length measures 37.25 inches. The pistol-grip buttstock includes a built-in shell holder, adjusts for length-of-pull, and folds to the side. When both the action and stock are folded, the Pak-Out Long collapses into a 26-inch package, weighing 6.7 lbs. The barrel is threaded to accept Remington-thread choke tubes and features a front sight. Rock Island Armory lists the MSRP at $650.
